The Greek Tragedies & Comedies of the Lenaea, City & Rural Dionysia offered a ruthless and public examination of human pretentions, political hypocrisy and the conflict between public & private duty, fate & free will. Experience some of the most important venues of catharsis on this Theatre based tour.
Day 1 Flight to Athens. Visit Thorikos rectangular theatre, the oldest in Greece en route to the Temple of Poseidon at Cape Sounion. Evening meal at local taverna in bay beneath beautifully floodlit Temple. Overnight in Athens. Day 2 Theatre of Dionysus and Odeion of Perikles, Areopagus for view of Agora (site of archaic orchestra), Pnyx. After lunch visit Topos Allou for an afternoon of Costume and Mask Workshops, Set-Text Studio Sessions and Ancient Drama performance as requested. Evening meal at hotel with performance of Karagiozis Shadow Puppet Theatre. Day 3 Morning visit to National Archaeological Museum or Akropolis and New Akropolis Museum. Afternoon to the Theatre of Epidavros and the small theatre of Palea Epidavros, original landing place of ancient pilgrims.
