The 4* hotel was absolutely superb and I would highly recommend buffet dinners as this goes down well with fussy students! We did not have one bad meal – the food was excellent all round. The timing of the trip was a little off season but understandable to miss the tourist rush. The itinerary was very well planned and the guide Ritsa was very good. I think sometimes there could have been more of a mix with free time to explore/guided tours (as with the Provence trip) as teenagers could get a bit tired, but otherwise fine. Only one issue at the Museum which was immediately followed up by phonecall. All the archaeological sites – Gournia, Phaistos, Knossos, Aghia Triada etc… Matala/Potamos beaches were stunning. I would try and add the cave at Mt Dikte next time. Claudia Willocks – thank you as always for your amazing organisation and support. I have received lots of lovely emails from students/parents thanking me for the trip and it has been excellent PR for the department. “I had made the serious error of printing the boarding passes double-sided and then not pairing pupils up before we got in the check-in queue at Gatwick. The Easyjet staff could not have been nicer and more accommodating of the chaos which unfolded. I was very impressed by the Hotel in Meta, especially the food. Problems came up but they were dealt with in a swift and friendly way, very quick and helpful responses from everyone. Excellent communication from Loredana and Noemi was great. Our bus drivers Enzo and Ermanno, we asked to find us lunch on the drive down from Vesuvius, managed to bring us to a restaurant with quick service and excellent pizzas, I was very impressed and it was the perfect final stop before the airport. “We returned this morning from Sardinia. This was another absolutely outstanding trip and we loved every moment. The guide Silvia was the most lovely lady and so knowledgeable and helpful about all the sites. The driver Fabio was also excellent in navigating the serpentine roads around Sardinia. It is such a beautiful part of the world with so many different landscapes, flora and fauna. The sites were superb, and the hotels excellent. The pizza went down very well. I particularly enjoyed Cagliari amphitheatre and Su Nuraxi di Barumini. The Sacred Well was also a fascinatingly complex design and the students were really engaged with the material. The first hotel was stunning and we enjoyed time in the swimming pool and rooftop bar there. The students also visited two beautiful beaches, and LOVED the boat trip around the Sardinian coast. It was a perfectly balanced trip and the students were very happy throughout, with visits to caves, necropoleis and encounters with fairies and flamingos. Italica and Playa de Bolonia were excellent. We loved the hotel – the boys used the gym and there was a park outside for football. The meal at the steakhouse/tapas restaurant was excellent and the students commented on the quality of the food. The guide Clara was absolutely superb and meticulously organised – she communicated very well with the driver and hotel which meant I could relax with timings. “Packed in lots – pupils enjoyed themselves. Undercut the price of other school tours. Always feel that Hellene work their hardest to get the best itinerary. Olivier was great, but clearly not used to a school party. His company dropped him in it by not booking him a room at the hotel, and he was flustered about helping to sort out lunch on the first day. He was much happier when we asked for the courier to stay with us for the whole trip. Evening meals were decent. Breakfast not up to Italy or Greece; basic continental. Our gluten-free pupil/dairy-free/Halal were all well catered for at dinner but had to bring our own gluten-free cereal because breakfast was entirely bread and cereal-based. Claudia was excellent at the two ‘wobble’ moments of the trip and they were resolved very quickly – thanks! The pupils certainly knew lots about Roman/Gallic culture and buildings by the end! The museums are brilliant: Arles, Lyon, Nimes and St Romaine en Gal. Orange has the wow factor and the VR was good there too. The lady at Vaison (Ana Maria Mellard?) was super, particularly because she asked where we had already been and didn’t repeat what we had heard already. We use Hellene because of the hard work you commit to getting the best deal. ”

One of our staff mentioned that these were the best hotels he had ever stayed in on a school trip! The Athenian hotel’s location made it quite difficult to go out in the evening as it wasn’t very near to any shops etc. and was on a very busy road but Kerry warned us, so we knew about this in advance. The food at the Grand Hotel Flora in Sorrento was fine, but a choice of a couple of dishes may have been even nicer, particularly for pupils who are gluten free. “James worked very hard to accommodate us and was always only an email away for urgent matters. Hotel Staff so accommodating of our requests, always delivering. On the final night, they let us run a quiz / dance evening in the living area. Evening food of pasta starter, hearty main and dessert was very decent and a good range of continental options at breakfast. The rooms themselves were clean and comfortable, some of which had lovely balconies with views over the Gulf of Sorrento. Sant Agata a perfect location for a trip such as this, with just enough (i.e. gelato shops) for worthwhile evening strolls, but generally quiet and safe feeling.
